Closed events due to the coronavirus in Utah

Many Utahns are canceling events due to the spread of the novel coronavirus. Utahns are canceling and postponing events that would exceed 100 people.

Many Utahns are canceling events due to the spread of the novel coronavirus.

On Thursday, March 12, Utah Gov. Gary Herbert announced for the next two weeks, mass gatherings should be limited to 100 people in Utah. Following this announcement, many Utahns are canceling and postponing events that would exceed 100 people.

Here is an ongoing list of events in Utah that are canceled or postponed:

Abravanel Hall, Capitol Theatre, Eccles Theater and the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center:

Will be closed for all performances from March 12-31, at the direction of the Salt Lake County mayor.

Art at the Main

The gallery will be closed through the month of March.

BYU Arts

Canceling its events in all venues effective March 16.

BYU Museum of Art

It will be closed to the public on March 13-17. Gallery Talks on March 18 and April 1 will be live-streamed on Facebook and Instagram and will not be open to the public.

Cirque du Soleil

Has canceled “BAZZAR,” which was scheduled May 24 through July 5 at the Maverik Center. All ticket holders will be contacted by their point of sale regarding the refund process. Cirque du Soleil will be working to reschedule performances in West Valley City in the near future.

The Commonwealth Room and The State Room

Both are postponing all shows that are scheduled through March.

Discovery Gateway Children’s Museum 

It will be closed until further notice.

The Egyptian Theatre

Will be canceling the progressive rock band Moe.’s three nights of shows, as well as the upcoming performances of “Newsies the Musical.” Moe. has agreed to reschedule its dates, which are still to be determined.

Finch Lane Gallery

will be closed from March 13-27.

Hale Center Theatre

It is suspending all performances until March 30.

Hale Center Theater Orem

Will cancel all performances beginning March 16 through March 28. The theater will be adding additional performances of “Matilda” in order to accommodate rescheduled tickets.

Pioneer Theatre Company

Will be canceling its upcoming production of “Ass,” which was scheduled for March 27-April 11.

Repertory Dance Theatre

Is canceling all events, including dance centers, through March 31.

Salt Lake Acting Company

Is postponing its upcoming production of “Four Women Talking About the Man Under the Sheet,” with new dates to be announced shortly.

Salt Lake Film Society

 Announced in a news release it is canceling all events that will have more than 50 people in attendance. The organization is also pledging not to sell more than 100 seats during any one time block.

The St. Patrick’s Day parade in Salt Lake City and the Siamsa

The celebration following it on March 14 have been canceled.

Southern Utah Museum of Art

Is rescheduling the opening reception for the 2020 BFA Senior Exhibition to a closing reception on April 24.

Utah Film Center

Board of Directors decided to cancel Utah Film Center public and school programs at all venues, beginning with Thursday’s screening of “Binti,” through April 19. The center will reschedule all canceled events.

Utah Symphony and Utah Opera

Is canceling all performance dates scheduled in March. Utah Symphony and Utah Opera are currently evaluating whether these performances are able to be rescheduled at a later date.

Utah Museum of Contemporary Art 

It will be closed from March 13-27, and will also be postponing all public programming through April 17.

Utah Museum of Fine Arts

Will be closed to the public March 13-27, and will also be canceling all events, programs, and tours through April.

Four concerts at Vivint Smart Home Arena: The Post Malone Runaway Tour, Celine Dion Courage World Tour,  JoJo Siwa D.R.E.A.M. The Tour, Cher Here We Go Again Tour 2020

Guests who purchased tickets to those shows will be notified through the promoter directly to either receive a refund or exchange for a rescheduled show.

Woodbury Art Museum

 Is canceling the opening reception of the Student Art Show on March 24, as Utah Valley University has decided to cancel all campus events; however, the museum will remain open and the exhibition will still open that same day.
