This intimate a-cappella performance from Steve Perry deliveries some much-needed comfort as we too face our own form of self-isolation.

The former lead singer of Journey proved he still has his vocal chops with this a-cappella rendition of “In My Room.”

At the beginning of the video Perry shared a note: “When I was a teenager, isolating in my room, this song gave me comfort. ” He signed it, “Stay safe. Steve.”

While he may be isolating for different reasons, you can still feel his love for this Beach Boys’ classic. Listen to the full performance here.

There has been debate on if and when Perry would ever perform with Journey again. After his long hiatus with Journey, he released a solo project called Traces in 2018.

No live tour evolved from this project, in fact, his last live performances were a few shows in 2014 as a guest with rock band Eels and his solo tour in 1995. His absence has lead to rumors on the state of his voice.

In a 2018 interview with Rolling Stone, he cleared up some of those rumors.

“I have my vocal box checked all the time. I have no nodules on it. I have a really good doctor…She’s really able to see them well and, knock on wood, nothing wrong with my voice. The only thing is I didn’t really use if for a while, but it’s like working out when you begin using it again,” said Perry.

While he has made no recent news on the likelihood of returning to the stage, we do have this video to admire his vocal range.
