The massive inflatable pig that Pink Floyd featured on the cover of their 1977 album Animals is being auctioned off by Air Artists, a rock memorabilia collector. The pig, named Algie, infamously broke loose from its moorings at Beattersea Power Station in 1976, interrupting air traffic. “I’m sad to see them go but they very rarely see the light of day and so I would be quite happy for someone else to take them for a walk,” said artist Rob Harries. “The clear-out has been quite cathartic and brought back a lot of memories, but I do feel I’ve been there and done that now, and it’s time to move on.” Other items Harries has created include the kneeling Babylonian woman used on the Rolling Stones Bridges to Babylon tour, and a giant pig’s head used during Roger Waters’s Berlin Wall concert.
