Dave Davies is playing a role in the new Smithsonian Channel television series, Rock ‘N’ Roll Inventions. “It’s an extraordinary work, really. There’s a lot of information in that show and I was excited to be part of it,” Davies tells Billboard. The series examines how technology has shaped rock and roll throughout its inception. It begins by examining the earliest recording techniques and phonographic record players and goes up to the present digital age. Davies created the guitar tone in the Kinks hit, “You Really Got Me,” by slashing his speaker with a razor to give his guitar a fuzzed out distorted sound. Davies said, “I’ve always been interested in new ideas and new technology. Even now I like the digital stuff.” The first of the six-episode weekly series aired at 8 p.m. ET on Monday, January 16.
