The North American rights to Bad Reputation, a new documentary about Joan Jett, have been purchased by Magnolia Pictures, who are targeting a 2018 theatrical release. Kevin Kerslake directed Bad Reputation, which made its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival. The new doc follows Jett from her early years as the founder of The Runaways and first meeting collaborator Kenny Laguna in 1980 to her enduring presence in pop culture as a rock and roll pioneer. Joel Marcus wrote the feature, which was produced by Peter Afterman and Carianne Brinkman. Dan Braun of Submarine exec produced, along with Justus Haerder and Kathy Rivkin-Daum for music company BMG, which solely financed the project. Co-producers are Alessandra Pasquino and Margaret Yen.
