Sound Pictures: The Life of Beatles Producer George Martin – The Later Years, 1966 – 2016, the second volume of a biography of Sir George Martin, written by Kenneth Womack, will be published on September 4. An excerpt from the book was recently released to the media, detailing the making of the Beatles’ classic track “Hey Jude.” “When we were recording the track, I thought that we had made it too long. It was very much a Paul song, and I couldn’t understand what he was on about by just going round and round the same thing. And of course, it does become hypnotic,” Martin recalls. “Hey Jude,” is one of the all time hits of pop music. The 1968 Beatles classic single sold more than 2 million copies within a month of its release. It went on to remain on top of the Billboard chart for 9 consecutive weeks.
