Yoko Ono celebrated her late husband John Lennon’s 78th birthday by releasing her own version of “Imagine,” Lennon’s biggest solo hit. Her own rendition of Imagine will appear on her upcoming album, Warzone, a collection of her reworked tracks. The album, featuring 13 re-imagined original songs, will drop on October 19. “Imagine” was co-authored by Ono, but she was not given its credit until 2017, when the National Music Publishers Association announced that the Japanese musician would finally be credited as a co-writer on the track, 47 years after the song was written. Lennon had admitted in an interview in 1980 that the song’s lyrics should be credited as a Lennon-Ono song because “a lot of it – the lyric and the concept – came from Yoko.” “But those days I was a bit more selfish, a bit more macho, and I sort of omitted to mention her contribution,” Lennon told BBC.
