David Bowie’s widow Iman is mourning the loss of her mother just months after the death of her husband. Iman, 60, hit Twitter to note the loss. “Saddened by the death of my mom Maryan Baadi,” she wrote, adding a photo with her parents on her wedding day. “May Allah grant her the highest jennah #ripmaryanbadi.” In a 2014 interview with the Guardian, Iman explained the inspiration her parents gave her: “My mother was an activist, so was my father. They came from a generation of young Somalis who were actively involved in getting independence for Somalia in 1960. So I remember when I was five how busy our house was. People would come in the middle of the night, meetings after meetings, and protests and all that. I grew up in the midst of all of that. And she instilled that in me. The fact that nobody can take your self-worth unless you give your consent.” Iman, who has been fairly quiet on social media since the passing of Bowie, did note his loss. “The struggle is real, but so is God,” she wrote.
