The lawyer who sued Led Zeppelin in the “Stairway to Heaven” trial is now reportedly suspended from practicing law, according to NME. Francis Malofiy was the lawyer for Michael Skidmore, a trustee for the late Randy California (real name Randy Wolfe), who played in the band Spirit. They recorded a song called “Taurus,” which Skidmore claimed “Stairway to Heaven” sounded like. Skidmore demanded Wolfe be given a writing credit on “Stairway to Heaven” since the two songs are so similar. Malofiy also agreed that Wolfe be given writing credit due to supposed infringement. Now it has been revealed that Malofiy will serve a suspension of three months and one day for violation of “various rules of conduct” tied to a copyright infringement case dealing with Usher’s track “Bad Girls.” Last week it was announced that Led Zeppelin won the case.
