Researchers who recently discovered a new plant have named it after the late Jimi Hendrix. The plant, which was found in Baja California, Mexico, has been christened Dudleya hendrixii, or “Hendrix’s liveforever.” According to Rolling Stone, liveforevers are a kind of succulent with enormous life spans. “Hendrix’s liveforever” is a stalky plant less than a foot tall with pinkish-white flowers that dies in summer and re-sprouts in fall. San Diego State University says a former graduate student, Mark Dodero, discovered the plant supposedly while he was listening to Hendrix’s classic track “Voodoo Child.” The university says Dodero and Stephen McCabe of the University of California, Santa Cruz decided to name it for the late rock guitarist. Although it was just recently discovered, the plant is already in danger of dying off. “It’s the Mexican equivalent of an endangered species, although they don’t use the same criteria we do in the United States,” study co-author Michael Simpson, a plant biologist at San Diego State University, said in a statement.
