David Bowie has posthumously been awarded the coveted South Bank Arts Award. The U.K. event took place in London over the weekend and Bowie’s longtime friend and collaborator Iggy Pop accepted the award on his behalf via video message. In his acceptance speech on Bowie’s behalf, Pop recalled that Bowie truly relished his role as a British artist and recalled their time their together: “[We] shared digs . . . in London at a beautiful old Victorian house that was looked after by a lady named Mrs. Potter,” he said continuing the Bowie always made a point to watch the awards show. “Later, producer Tony Visconti brought over a big load of the . . . shows which we would watch to interrupt the hilarity of the Monty Python stuff,” he said.
