The greatest drummer in the world is gone.

Neil Peart from Rush died earlier this week in Santa Monica, Calif., after having been diagnosed with brain cancer, according to a statement from family spokesperson Elliot Mintz.  He was 67 years old.

We’ve heard rumors about Niel’s health for a couple of years, following the band’s final tour in 2015, but friends and family kept a lid on how serious things had been, and how fast they progressed.

Officially joining RUSH in ’74, and having a playing style that has no doubt influenced an entire generation of drummers, singers, songwriters, and fans.

Rest in peace.
