Supposed fan thinks Tom Morello shouldn’t mix politics and music

By Trent Sell

Tom Morello, the guitarist of Rage Against the Machine, retweeted at a “fans” comment about his music being too political. Despite being a hotbed topic in our nation, as the fight for racial equality and condemnation of police brutality rages on, the comment is outright rude and ignorant.

Morello shuts down internet troll’s comment

While it’s obvious the troll’s intention was to stir up aggression, Morello had the perfect response. His fans had his back, who also saw right through the nonsense of the comment.

The internet troll tweeted, “I use to be a fan until your political opinions come out. Music is my sanctuary and the last thing I want to hear is political bs when i’m listening to music. As far as i’m concerned you and Pink are completely done. Keep running your mouth and ruining your fan base.” It is also noted that the twitter profile looks fishy and could be a bot, which would explain the outlandish comment.

Morello fired back with this epic tweet, “Scott!! What music of mine were you a fan of that DIDN’T contain ‘political BS’? I need to know so I can delete it from the catalog.”

Anyone who has listened to Rage Against the Machine, or most music in general, knows that lyrics are often fueled by politics, current events, and cultural issues. It’s also worth noting that Morello is an honors grad from Harvard with a degree in political science, so he has quite a bit of background on these topics.

Fans didn’t let the hateful commenter get off too easy either.

Two fans commented, “’Wake Up’ was just a quickie he knocked off for an alarm clock makers” and “Take the Power Back is actually about recharging batteries.” Lastly, “What ‘Machine’ did you think he was raging against? The dishwasher?”
